The Creator Story

Years ago, an idea popped into my head like a stray transmission from deep space: What if we could take the immense, interconnected history of our favorite sci-fi galaxy and forge it into a daily trivia puzzle challenge?

Scott and I have been best friends for over 25 years, dating back to our high school days. Even after I moved all the way across the country while Scott stayed near home, we remained besties and teamed up on various creative projects over the years. I had shared this trivia puzzle concept with him from time to time, but with zero software engineering background between us, the idea remained sitting on the shelf.

Then one day in early 2024, out of the blue, I received a text message from Scott that simply said: "This is the next project we're working on." Attached was a link. When I opened it on my phone, there was a very rudimentary, ugly, but completely functional mobile proof-of-concept for Galactic Grid that Scott had put together. Seeing that early board on my screen brought the vision to life in an instant, and that was the exact day we officially set out to build this machine together.

That pivotal moment was made possible by the rise of AI-assisted software development tools, which were still in their infancy at the time, creating the first real opportunity in software history for non-technical creators with deep domain passion to bring their own software ideas to life.

Our Mission & Data Sourcing

Our goal is simple: deliver a clean, fast, and endlessly rewarding daily brain-teaser that brings fans together over their morning coffee. We are committed to keeping Galactic Grid free, accessible on mobile and desktop, and regularly updated with fresh grids.

Galactic Grid is grounded in educational fan scholarship. Our data matrix is built on raw, factual metadata sourced from community-curated public archives at Wookieepedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC BY-SA 3.0). On our post-game Mission Debrief screen, we expose every valid database answer for all nine boxes with direct outbound links to Wookieepedia so players can dive deeper into the lore on their own terms.
